Before you are sentenced by the Judge for the charges found against you, the Judge may require that a presentence investigation is conducted. You will be referred to the Probation Department for this investigation. You must contact the Probation Department for an appointment within 24 hours of the Judge ordering this presentence investigation. You may receive documentation in the mail that you are to complete and return with you at your scheduled appointment with the probation officer. You will also be instructed to bring certain documentation such as:
- Driver’s License or Michigan ID
- Social Security Card, Diploma(s)
- Military discharge papers
to name a few.
The purpose of a presentence report is to provide the Judge with additional information about you and your crime and make recommendations so that the Judge may be more informed at sentencing. Your cooperation during this process will be reflected in the presentence report.
